The Boston Marathon has officially returned to the city, and it is awe-inspiring to see everything in place, people roaming around the city with gear on, smiling in that way that communicates anticipation of something very special on the horizon.
I went to the Expo last night to get my bib number, and I was filled with such powerful emotion. From the moment you walk into The Hynes Convention Center, it is nothing but purely positive energy, and you can't help but grin and walk slowly, taking it all in. I ran into my friend Dan, running for Tedy's Team, and it was perfect, because with 36,000 runners this year, I highly doubt we would've found one another on race day.
I think I'm ready. So much work has gone into training, and then rehabbing my IT Band issue. I've spent this week managing emotions, sometimes not so well, and trying to get enough sleep and nutrition. Also touch and go all week. I think this is pretty normal, though, and at this point, I just wish the day was here. There are two more days until I drive into the city to catch a bus to Hopkinton and run my way back.
Our team has our pasta party tonight, and it's going to be really great to see them all one last time before Marathon Monday. We met for dinner this week, and it helped settle my nerves. Tonight will help me get through the next couple of days, and then it's go time!
With you in spirit!!!
